TWRM Radio: “Kīlauea” – Music For Pele

I’ve always been better at figuring out volcanoes than people and politics.

Did you know there are over 150 active volcanoes in the United States? Of course you didn’t, and neither did I before creating this mix. But, it’s true. These natural wonders can be both awe-inspiring and terrifying. Perhaps it’s these qualities that have lead to so many video games featuring volcano and lava levels.

Hawaii, famously known for being created by a chain of volcanoes, is synonymous with the frightening marvels, and it is where the story of Pele was born. Pele is the goddess of volcanoes and fire and was believed to have created the Hawaiian islands. Pele lives in the crater of Kīlauea, a volcano that recently erupted continuously from 1983 to 2018.

Always respect the power of the fire mountains and enjoy “Kīlauea” – Music For Pele.

Thank you to The Well-Red Mage, The Arcade Mage, and The Hyperactive Coffee Mage for nominating songs for this month’s mix.

  1. Once when I was a kid, I visited a lava flow from Kilauea. It had overtaken the road and we parked and went out to walk on the hardened rock, which was still warmish. One of my rubber slippers stuck to a rock and my dad had to carry me back to the car, or something. You could say that he had to walk Though The Fire And Flames.
