Weekend Wizard Inn

The Weekend Wizard Inn: February 8th, 2019

Greetings, fellow travelers! The Weekend Wizard Inn is open for business, so grab a seat and discuss what’s in your gaming quest log for the next few days. Maybe even do so over a piping bowl of ogre blood stew, a roasted giant’s toe, or a cool mug of our freshest snail ale! There’s a great spot over near the fire with some of your fellow mages, and it appears a purple-robed fella with a… creepy mask of sorts… is waving you over!

cba1 Hey, folks! Happy February! I’m Trash, a fellow mage, and every Friday afternoon I’ll be here at The Weekend Wizard Inn to help get the conversation started. Join in down in the comment section and let everybody know what’s on your gaming agenda this weekend!

Are you working through your backlog? Playing a hot new release? Maybe forgoing gaming in favor of something people call “real life stuff?”

On deck for me we have…

1: Tales of Zestiria (PS4)

I just finished up Tales of Berseria last night and MAN what a ride that was! The character growth, the storytelling, it was just… one of those chef’s kiss emoji things. Just an absolutely wonderful JRPG that happens to be set 1,000 years prior to the events in Tales of Zestiria.

Zestiria is probably the most polarizing entry in the Tales series of JRPGs, but it’s one I enjoyed quite a bit back when it launched in January of 2015. Has it already been four years? Wow.

In my first playthrough, I made it all the way up to the save point right at the “point of no return,” and then had to shelve it temporarily to freelance a review. A review for another RPG. An RPG that took me 70 hours to finish. You see where this is going, right?

Needless to say, by the time I got back to Zestiria a month later, I had no idea what was going on in the story, how the combat system worked, and who half the people were in my party. “Point of no return” indeed.

“Why not just read the Wiki or watch a wrap-up video on YouTube?” I hear you ask! These are both valid and objectively smarter options, but I’ve never claimed to be the brightest crayon in the pack. I’ll happily start over from scratch because WHAT IS A BACKLOG?! A miserable pile of secrets, that’s what.

With Berseria now in the books, what better time to revisit Zestiria while the prequel’s events are fresh in my mind.

I’m only an hour into the game right now since I have a lot on my plate (those aforementioned “real life things”) this weekend, but whatever time I *do* have will likely go to this.

What about you, folks? What’s on your gaming agenda this weekend?

  1. Playing some of The Division 2 private beta on Xbox. Enjoying it but I don’t know how much I want to play of it because I don’t want to burn myself out on the game before the full game releases.

  2. Kingdom Hearts 3 for me still, slowly. It’s not as engaging for me as the older games were. Maybe I’m no longer the target demographic. I dunno. Also gonna play (and lose at) some Super R-Type for RGB’s high score challenge!

      • My take on KH is it was a downhill progression from KH through to KH2, so KH3 seems like a natural degradation for me. Might be time to retire the series entirely.

Still got 5 more games to go in the challenge, I think! I’m on Tetris & Dr Mario now! 🙂

  3. I started a new playthrough of both Dragon Age Inquisition and Fallout 4. I’m a little burned out on games ever since finishing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, so I’m hoping that revisiting a few old favorites will get me excited about trying something new again.

    • Those big games like AC Odyssey certainly take their toll, don’t they? Whenever I don’t know what I’m in the mood for, something from BioWare usually does the trick, so I commend you on another run of DAI. It’s one of my all-time favorites. What race/class/romance are you going for? I’ve been wanting to start a new playthrough of ME Andromeda for a year now so maybe that’ll be in the cards here soon.
