I believe that there are still people who believe that game music is something equal to just an effect incorporated into the game…this is something that I would like to show is not true.
“The following is a contributor post by the ABXY Mage.”
Finally, the first episode of MAGE CAST: Side Quests has arrived…
What happens when you take two audiophile mages and record them having a conversation about video game music, its history, its highlights, and its impact? A really long discussion that had to be broken up into multiple parts in order to fit into episodes!
We decided to release the first two episodes together. So, when you finish the first one, you can go ahead and immediately continue the conversation.
For these inaugural episodes, I was lucky enough to land the Well-Red Mage as my guest. Friends in high places, am I right?
In the first episode, we discuss where the idea for Side Quests came from, where it would like to go, public perception of video game music, earliest soundtracks, and the C64.
In the second episode, we move into Nintendo’s impact on video game music, notable and early composers and songs, and mine and Red’s mutual favorite game composer.
But, that’s not all. These are only the first two, of three, parts. So, be on the lookout for the conclusion of our discussion in a couple weeks.
We’re so happy to finally bring this project to light. To commemorate the event, let’s see if you can share at least one video game song that you could listen to forever, a song you never get tired of hearing! Share your infinity track in the comments. Celebrate VGM.
The ABXY Mage leads a double life of unfathomable hipness, if his expertise in jazz is any indication. Music maker, fandangoist, writer, you can find this hip cat as ABXY Reviews on Twitter and on YouTube.
