“The Entertainer Award”

I feel like Scott Joplin! Play me some ragtime! I owe so many lovely people a 9999 bits of gratitude this week, and foremost among them being LilSamuelJones of Next Level Review for nominating the team and I for the Entertainer Award! (It’s actually “The Entertainer Blogger Award” but that’s a cumbersome mouth-full)

Anyone with a blog banner that has space invaders in it must be a cool peep but this cool peep just happens to run a happening blog, as well. Thanks, LSJ! May the hair on your toes never fall out!

The Rules of The Entertainer Blogger Award

  • Write a post including the award picture.
  • Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring, and most importantly ENTERTAINING!
  • Add these rules to the post.
  • Thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog!
  • Answer the questions down below:

Why did you start to blog in the first place?

I’d been blogging for a little while prior to TWRM but this was the first time starting one for video game/entertainment reviews. Theology and comic books were the subjects of my previous blogs. It’s been everything I’ve wanted since I began: an opportunity to write as consistently and often as possible.

What is your favourite book?

Beside of the Book of books? Alice in Wonderland. The first novel I finished as a wee mage.

What do you dislike the most?

Anyone who knows me knows I’ve got a fairly black and white personality. There are a lot of things I really love and a lot of things that really bug me. A major pet-peeve is when entertainment panders to a specific group, no matter what group that is and if I belong to it or not. It’s the prostitution of the product when it tries to tell somebody only what they want to hear. It dates itself, too. Dislike.

What is your favourite food item from the mall?

Our mall is terrible out here. Haha! I guess Chinese food. Got a soft spot in my liver for all that yum yum grease.

What are your favourite pastimes?

I enjoy fishing, hiking, going to the park, reading, writing, video games, exploring, thinking, brainstorming, discussing, teaching, eating foods, and watching sci-fi.

My Nominations are:

  1. lightningnova
  2. pokeninja90
  3. themancalledscott
  4. Mei-Mei
  5. evilwizardesq
  6. Astro Adam
  7. steviegill
  8. vahrkalla
  9. moresleepneeded
  10. HijackedCat
  11. dreager1
  12. neoethereal

And I’m changing the questions, because I do what I want. So answer these:

  1. What do you hope to gain from blogging?
  2. What genre of film entertains you most?
  3. Do you consider yourself a writer, and what inspires you to write?
  4. What is your biggest pet peeve?
  5. Why did you choose your particular WordPress username?

Sincerest apologies if you’ve already been nominated afore. Thanks!
-The Well-Red Mage

  1. Congratulations on the award. I found the answers interesting, I was surprised to see Alice in Wonderland named as the first book you completed (while it is a good children’s book, I would have thought the language and classic status would put kids off from reading it). I like the list of hobbies, although I noticed general reading, writing and video games, while watching sci-fi seemed quite specific. Is this because you are willing to read different genres, but only like science-fiction films and series? I am not sure I agree with the statement about entertainment pandering to a specific group. I like it when stories develop a niche and continues to use elements to appeal to loyal fans, rather than become mainstream to appeal to a large audience. What were you referring to by the statement?
I am not sure if I count as an entertaining blogger though.

    • Hey thanks very much!
As a kid I loved the 1950’s animated Disney Alice in Wonderland so I was drawn to the book. I remember the cashier at Waldenbooks telling my mother he thought it was above my reading level. It took me a while but it was the first legitimate novel I finished. After that it was the Wizard of Oz. Wish I could remember my exact age.
I do enjoy sci-fi films far more than other genres of movies but for reading I enjoy a broader range.
By pandering I don’t mean to slam niche groups or fanbases. It’s when entertainment puts an agenda, such as fanservice, over quality or honesty of storytelling. That kind of thing bugs me, but not necessarily that there are fans of it.

      • I can understand why you would want to read Alice in Wonderland after watching the animated film. I was surprised you read the Wizard of Oz book, I only realised the film was based on a novel fairly recently. What was it like? Was it similar to the film?
I can understand your point about fanservice. I can see how stories can be limited by a need to appeal to fans and a desire to closely follow the source.

  2. Ah! When I first read this post on my phone the Spinach Rag immediately became stuck in my head…for hours, but I have to admit that I, too, loved the ragtime influence in that and subsequent games (Dark City Treno from FFIX is one of the many songs I want to learn to play and the Triple Triad song is a personal favorite).

Congratulations on your award! Yasss more nominated blogs to go through πŸ™‚

  4. You are a very entertaining blogger, Well-Red! I knew that the award would make its way to you sooner or later! Ragtime has always been a part of Final Fantasy soundtracks, so it’s very fitting. Congratulations and keep being entertaining!
