“Liebster Award” Nomination, Chapter II

Red Liebster Award

Well. It’s happened. I’ve become my father…

Because I’ve just been nominated for a second Liebster Award in a single month. And here I thought my boundless narcissism and creepy charisma was as off-putting as a jar of Granny’s Peach Tea. Go figure. So gratitude is in order! Thank you to Matthew Stuber of Master Of The Fist for the nomination. You’ve made a Well-Red Mage blush!

The Liebster Award (pronounced “@%&!*#”) is an excellent networking tool for recognizing fellow blogs, sharing some viewership and generally spreading the love. We like love here. The Award works as follows, so far as I understand it:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and answer the 11 questions they’ve written for you.
  2. Nominate 11 different people and give them 11 questions to answer.

So here are the questions I was nominated by Mr. Stuber to answer:

  1. What do you feel you accomplish by blogging?
Restoring the lost knowledge (see About)! And also, it’s a great opportunity to write in manageable chunks rather than tackle (unfinished) novels and short stories.
  2. What do you consider yourself most talented in?
Public speaking and communication, since I have a history of being a writer in different genres and a preacher.
  3. If stranded on a deserted island or continent and only allowed 4 items what would they be?
Duct Tape! I saw a Mythbusters episode on that. The next thing would be a self-sustaining desalinization machine, a robot butler, and a Super Nintendo. I’m set!
  4. What form of transportation do you prefer most?
I can go anywhere I like online.
  5. What impact do you hope to have on the world?
With my current job working with people with disabilities, I want to be able to impact their lives so they have their dignity and can contribute to society, and as a preacher, I want to impact people to think about their eternal destination.
  6. Do you believe conflict can be settled just with words, or does physical violence have to be involved when necessary?
Hm well it depends on the conflict. I don’t advocate violence for just anything but a war to end a war I think is just. Communication must always come first, though! Physical force is the first resort of the unintelligent.
  7. What is your favorite genre of music?
    Classical. Particularly Chopin.
  8. What would you do if you were gifted 2 million dollars, how would you invest?
I’d save money for my family’s future and also donate some to the charities I believe in, but I’m not going to fool myself by saying that I wouldn’t have a wee bit of fun with it.
  9. What is the first thing you do in the morning after opening your eyes?
Turn and crack my spine like a bowl of rice crispies.
  10. What is the most rewarding experience you have ever had?
Surviving my wife’s 48 hour labor with our firstborn son, Kal. Yes, naming him after Superman made it worth it. 😉
  11. Do you think that you could live abroad for an extended period of time? If so, where?
Yes! I have lived abroad. I was in England for college for a bit, but I’d like to church plant in other countries should the opportunity ever arise. I hear Japan is nice.

And my well-red nominees are…

I. GamingPicks
II. Nick the Gent at Deconstructing Video Games

  1. Congratulations on getting being nominated. I found your answers quite interesting. You did mention in your review on the first Legend of Zelda game you had a religious upbringing as a child, I did not expect you to be a preacher though. I was surprised to see classical music described as your favourite music, I was expecting heavy metal for some reason. I was also interested that you lived in England for a brief period. I thought helping people with disabilities and giving to charity were noble goals.
What different genres do you have experience of writing in?

    • Hey thank you for your characteristically inquisitive comment! Yes I actually had the opportunity to attend a college in England for theology. Beautiful country! Haha I actually dislike heavy metal and prefer the mellow atmosphere of classical and its complexity. I’ve experience in writing in fantasy, science fiction, young adult, Christian and short story formats and genres. What is your writing history?

      • Unfortunately, my writing history mostly consists of scientific writing (which uses a passive voice and past tense), which I feel is reflected in my posts.
I considered you liking heavy metal because of the music used at the beginning of your posts and because I have always thought a lot of people who like medieval fantasy stories also enjoy heavy metal. I am not sure why. You seem to have a very varied writing history, have you published any books?

        • That’s an interesting observation! But yep, I’m a classics individual even in terms of music. I’m moving forward with published a novella entitled The Last Stitch Goes Through The Nose, but I need to hunt down the perfect publishing house.

  2. Congrats on the second nomination! You’re super awesome and you deserve it! Meanwhile, I still haven’t gotten my post from your last nomination out yet… I need to step up my game! Haha.

  3. Thank you so much! This is my first wordpress blog and I’m really starting to warm to the community thanks to you and others.

    Here are my answers:

DC or Marvel? (first and foremost)
DC. A lot of terrible characters but the ones that do shine are better than Marvel.

    Favorite console?
    Dreamcast

    Favorite video game?
Believe it or not I don’t really have one, but if I did have to pick some they would be: FF7, OOT, Half-Life 2.

Favorite character or franchise that needs a comeback?
Mega Man Volnutt from the Legends series.

    Favorite film?
    Donnie Darko

    Favorite book?
I’m not a big book buff but if I had to choose graphic novels, or more specifically manga, it would be 20th Century Boys.

    Favorite non-gaming pasttime?
    Watching movies.

Favorite thing about blogging and your blogging goals? (two for the price o’ one!)
Engaging the community and getting feedback. This will help my channel and identity grow and get better online.

Favorite thing you find most inspiring in life?
    My son, Adam.

What can The Well-Red Mage blog do to improve? (shameless, hehe)
Your blog theme feels a bit too black making some parts of it not stand out as much.

What’s a game you think I should review?
If you’ve never played the Kingdom Hearts series then you should definitely give them a shot
